A Smile for the Day

It seems as though some of us could use a good laugh.
This is Lainey's Uncle, my brother, Ben. He is 19 years old and has Down's Syndrome. This boy is a charmer. He proposed to me on bended knee at least once a week before I left for college. When I brought Dustin home for the first time, Ben took an instant dislike to him. He'd say to me, "You, Dustin, break up!" (and then do the sign for break up). For our first year of marriage, Ben barely spoke to him.

Ben drove my car once, blew up the microwave when heating a fork, and called 911 when he couldn't find the remote control. He keeps us going--in more ways than one. Ben is friends with everyone he comes in contact with. He loves to give hugs and kisses. He's a big fan of "High School Musical". He loves to comb my wet hair (now that's love on my part, because he's not gentle). He is sensitive to the needs of others and wants to 'help' in any way he can. Ben loves to have fun and include people in activities.

He doesn't sweat the small stuff.

He enjoys life to the fullest.

I should do that too.
