Lainey's 1st Manicure

Sometimes it's nice to forget that our lives are centered around diabetes (and to post something different once in awhile). This was one of those moments.

I was driving in the area, so I stopped at the nail salon to schedule a pedicure appointment for myself. As we're walking out, a man asks Lainey if she wanted her nails painted. Of course she said yes! And before I realized what was going on, she had her pink nail polish picked out and was sitting in the chair across from the coolest man she ever met!

He was even cooler when he put white polka dots on two of her fingers. Then he led her to the dryer light. Lainey was taking this all in with big eyes of wonder. She then noticed women soaking their feet and asked me what they're doing. When I explained they were getting their toenails painted, she asked to have hers done. "Maybe next time Honey," while thinking I've unintentionally introduced her to a very expensive hobby 15 years too early.

Luckily I was only charged $5 because it wasn't a full, blown out manicure just a paint job.

When we got home, she posed for pictures.
Then we checked her sugar---304.
We were brought back to reality.

Polka dots!! WOW!! That's so cute! Does nail polish have carbs that soak in through the nails? 304 is pathetic!! Hang in there.

I just stumbled onto your blog (from one of the other type 1 blogs), and just wanted to say hi! My daughter was also diagnosed right after her first birthday (two days after to be exact), and is now 23 months.

Glad I found your blog! Can I add you to mine?
