Walk to Cure Diabetes 2008

September 13, 2008 was the 1st JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in our area. We had so much support from our family, friends, and ward members. Because of their contributions, the Heath Family Team raised over $1,000 for diabetes research! A big thank you to all of you who helped in this wonderful cause.
This picture was our fundraising picture and this was the letter that went with it:
"Many of you know that my daughter, Lainey, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year and a half ago. I found out this afternoon that the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will be hosting a Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, September 13 in our home town.
Their goal is to raise $25,000 for diabetes research. Researchers feel that a cure IS in sight, and all proceeds from this event will support research vital to finding a cure for diabetes. Last year over $94 million was raised, around the country, through the Walk to Cure Diabetes to fund diabetes research.
If you'd like to donate or join my family team for the walk on September 13, please go to http://walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=walk.home Enter my first and last name, my team name (Heath Family), and Idaho as the state. The donation amount is up to you; it can be as little as $1. Every dollar will make a difference, and will get us that much closer to finding a cure for my precious little girl and millions of other children."
The Day of the Walk
All of Dustin's family came to run or walk with us. Lainey was surrounded by all her Heath cousins. She and Alexis had fun being pushed in the jogger by Daddy.
I made team shirts for Dustin, me and the girls. I wanted to make a statement, and I think I did. Lainey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 22, 2007.
The Heath Family Team. We had over 25 team members. Thanks to all who came!

Lainey's Cousins
Lainey's Aunt Courtney made signs for the cousins to carry.

Lainey's Grandma and Grandpa Heath
Most of our team members ran the 5k, but those who pushed strollers obviously walked. Here's Lainey and Daddy cheering on Grandma and Grandpa as they cross the finish line.

Libby was pushed in the stroller by Grandma Heath, while Momma and Daddy ran.

Lainey and I were interviewed by News Channel 6.

After the Walk there was a health fair and barbecue. We had a great morning!

We used this picture in our thank you cards to give to those who made a donation.
